The Malawi International Arbitration Centre (MIAC) Director who is also president of the Malawi Law Society, Patrick Mpaka says all is set for the MIAC symposium which will update stakeholders on the centre’s progress and help raise funds before it becomes self-sufficient.
Mpaka said once in operation, the centre will help in clearing the commercial dispute backlog.
Speaking in Blantyre when they received a donation of K2 million from TNM, Mpaka said currently the commercial court has six judges against over 3,000 cases.
Mpaka further said the need for MIAC to start functioning by the end of the year is critical.
TNM’s Legal and Regulatory Director, Chisomo Governor expressed the company’s dedication to supporting MIAC and anticipated gaining valuable insights from the symposium.
The symposium is slated for 5-6 September this year at Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe.
