Malawi commemorates Tea Day

Minister of Trade and Industry Sosten Gwengwe has challenged players in the Tea Industry to start manufacturing premier quality Malawi tea brands to fetch more foreign exchange earnings.

Gwengwe was speaking at Kawalazi Tea Estate in Nkhata Bay during activities to mark Tea Day, under the theme: ‘Global honouring women from a crop to a cup.”

Tea Association of Malawi Board Chairperson, Sangwani Hara, said  this year’s theme is aimed at recognising the role women play in the tea industry.

During the event, which started with a big walk from the tea factory to the football ground at the estate premises, everyone took a cup of tea.

Among other activities different stakeholders including International Labour Organization, Trust Africa, Solidaridad and Tea Association of Malawi launched two revised policy documents on gender mainstreaming.
