Agilitee partners with Chinese EV giant to drive Africa expansion

By Mirriam Kaliza

Africa’s electric mobility pioneer, Agilitee, has entered into a strategic partnership with Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Taizhou Okla Automotive Co. Ltd, widely known as Okla Global, in a move set to accelerate the rollout of electric vehicles across the continent.

Under the agreement, Agilitee has been granted a master licence for the Okla brand across Africa, giving it exclusive rights to licence, distribute and commercialise Okla’s electric mobility solutions throughout the region.

The transaction was advised and arranged by Treadway, a Hong Kong–based global investment banking firm that has been actively promoting Chinese investment in Africa’s industrialisation agenda.

Treadway has been instrumental in facilitating engagements between Agilitee and Chinese partners. As part of the partnership, Agilitee is expected to introduce five new electric scooter brands, which will be sold exclusively by the company across the African market.

In recent years, Agilitee has adopted a strategy centred on engaging African governments to stimulate economic activity and create employment opportunities, particularly for unemployed youth. This approach aligns with broader continental efforts to promote green energy, sustainable transport and local manufacturing.

Treadway has continued to play kia pivotal role through its investor network in China. The firm is also currently in discussions with EPC contractors and energy investors on behalf of several African governments for the development of solar power plants.

The role Treadway has played in advancing Africa’s industrial and sustainability agenda in China is evident through the Agilitee–Okla partnership.

Going forward, Agilitee will work closely with Treadway to expand the licensing and distribution of the Okla brand across Africa, a move expected to fast-track Okla’s entry into the region.

With its extensive network, infrastructure and established electric mobility ecosystem, Agilitee touts itself to be  well positioned to support Okla’s continental rollout.
