Over 100 learners from various secondary schools in Lilongwe Rural have received learning materials and school fees assistance worth K23 million through the Youth Empowerment through Supportive Education (YESE) project.
The initiative is being implemented in Traditional Authority Kalolo, Lilongwe District, by the Center for Concerned Youth in Development (CECOYD), with support from Sunhawk Energy International, in partnership with Child Legacy International and We Are One.
The donation has provided school fees, exercise books, and other essential items to support underprivileged students.
During the handover ceremony, a John Bosco Secondary School student who scored 13 points in the recently released MSCE results was recognized and rewarded with a goat for his achievement.
Out of the 18 students supported by the project who sat for the Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) exams this year, 14 successfully passed.
The project aims to assist underprivileged children in accessing education while promoting the ‘Go Back to School’ campaign, addressing the high dropout rates in TA Kalolo due to poverty.
William Banda, Programme Manager for Sunhawk Energy International said the project is a direct response to these challenges.
