The Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) says there is need for more girls to pursue innovative careers in science and technology.
Marion Kajombo, organising chairperson for the 2024 MUST Science, Technology Engineering and Mathematics Camp for girls, made the remarks in Blantyre while receiving K7.2 million donation from NICO Life. The donation supports the camp scheduleed for July12, 2024 at the university in Thyolo.
“Lack of financial muscle hinders the fulfilment of ideas at tertiary level hence we commend NICO Life for the support,” Kajombo said.
Acting Operating Officer for NICO Life, Chimwemwe Kanyenda, said statistics show a big gap on the use of technology between male and females hence supporting the idea by MUST for inclusiveness.
MUST plans to host about 200 secondary school girls, where they will be mentored on potential careers in science and technology.
