Global Fund approves $500 million grant

The Global Fund has approved a grant of approximately K865 billion ($500 million) to the Ministry of Health to combat deadly diseases and build Resilient Sustainable Systems for Health (RSSH).

The three-year grant, effective from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2027, will focus on fighting HIV, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, according to Principal Secretary, Dr Samson Mndolo.

He explained that 85% of the TB/HIV grant and 75% of the Malaria grant will be used for procuring, storing, and distributing medical commodities, including Long Lasting Nets for the Malaria programme.

However, he cautioned that the funds are not guaranteed and will only be released if additional resources become available at the Global Fund and the approved grant is successfully implemented.

Notably, $21 million has been allocated for community interventions, which will be implemented through Civil Society Public Relations.
