Southern Region Water Board (SRWB) is in need of half a billion kwacha to maintain its pumping system at Liwonde barrage, owing to rising water levels in Shire River.
Board chairperson of SRWB disclosed this during a visit by the Parliamentary Committee on Natural Resources and Climate Change.
The high waters have submerged some of their pumping equipment, resulting in the need to adjust or relocate.
The committee’s chairperson Welani Chilenga has given assurance that they will lobby finance authorities to assist SRWB.
