The High Court in Lilongwe has sentenced Arafat Gomani to 63 years imprisonment with hard labour for killing Lucy Kadzamira, a sister to former official hostess Cecelia Tamanda Kadzamira, in 2019.

Making his ruling, Judge Mzondi Mvula said he has meted out stiff punishment to the convict as a warning to people who disrespect the elderly in the country.

“I have given you 63 year jail term as a mark to show some respect for the elders. Late Lucy Kadzamira did not deserve to die in a brutal manner. Her vehicle was recovered but it is far too little compared to her precious life that was lost,” said Justice Mvula.

She was 82 when she met her fate.

Gonani is also serving a jail term for theft of the vehicle belonging to the deceased.

The convict was the last person to interact with Lucy Kadzamira in October 2019 before she was found lifeless in her house at Area 47 in Lilongwe.
