4 years in prison for theft of cattle

Chikwawa First Grade Magistrate’s court has convicted and sentenced John Justin to 4 years in prison for stealing cattle worth over K1 million from a farmer in the area of Traditional Authority Kasisi in the district.

Justin pleaded not guilty to the offence and the State paraded four witnesses who testified against him.

State prosecutor from Chikwawa Police Station, Constable Yamikani Sindeya pleaded with the court to hand Justin a custodial sentence as he is not a first offender and has reportedly sold all the stolen cattle.

In mitigation, the convict asked court for leniency as he is a breadwinner for his family.

When delivering his ruling, First Grade Magistrate Joram Zebron concurred with the state and ordered the convict to serve four years jail term.

Justin, 25, hails from Padzuwa Village, Traditional Authority Kasisi in Chikwawa District.
