Pupils at Mitundu Primary School have received a major boost following a donation of school materials worth approximately K3 million from philanthropist Chawezi Banda, popularly known as ‘Chacha.’
The donation, which includes exercise books, pens, and pencils, was distributed to learners from Standard 1 to Standard 8 and is aimed at improving access to essential learning resources for underprivileged children.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Banda said her gesture is part of her ongoing commitment to promoting education and youth development in Malawi.
“I believe that education is the foundation of progress, and I am committed to playing my part in helping young minds reach their full potential,” said Banda. “This donation will benefit pupils who have been in dire need of exercise books.”
She added that her philanthropic work, which has previously focused on the health sector including donations to Kamuzu Central Hospital, Nkhata Bay District Hospital, and Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital is now expanding to support the education sector.

“I am so delighted to be here today, and I wish these pupils the very best in their academic journeys,” she said.
Receiving the donation, Head Teacher Peter Msiyambiri expressed heartfelt appreciation on behalf of the school.
“On behalf of the school and the pupils, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to Madam Chacha for this invaluable contribution. We look forward to seeing the positive outcomes of this donation in our pupils’ academic journey,” he said.
Msiyambiri also called on other well-wishers to emulate Banda’s example, noting that many learners still lack some school supplies.
