Police at Jenda in Mzimba District have nabbed two men suspected to have engaged in different criminal activities.
Public Relations Officer for the northern region-based police station, Macfarlen Mseteka, said the two are Maxwell Tembo and Geyala Kalemela.
According to Mseteka, Tembo allegedly orchestrated a break-in at Differt Liyenda’s shop in the district, using a hole drilled through the shop’s wall, where he made away with a treasure trove of electronics valued at K2 million on 6 February 2024.
“Through an intelligence-driven operation, a team of Jenda police detectives arrested Tembo and recovered seven touch screen cell phones, four keypad cell phones, six Bluetooth batteries, four phone chargers, seven flash disks, 24 memory cards, 13 card readers, 105 phone batteries and many other items,” he said.
Kalemela, on the other hand, is suspected of stealing a Lifan motorcycle in Dedza and selling it in Mchinji. He was arrested last night by the law enforcers upon a tip-off about Kalemela’s presence in the area.
Tembo awaits court proceedings, while Kalemela, is set to face charges related to the motorcycle theft and will be handed over to Dedza Police.
