The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Madalitso Kazombo, says youths require support through various initiatives since they are vital to Malawi’s development.
Kazombo said this on Monday at Chilimampunga Ground in Lilongwe City West Constituency during the launch of the K 15 Million Football and Netball League, which was also the closing ceremony of the George Zulu K4 million Easter Bonanza.
“The youth, who form a huge percentage of the country, cannot be ignored [if] Malawi [is]to achieve its goals,” he said.
Zulu, a lawmaker for the area, pledged continued collaboration with the youth through sports, which he believes will help constituents bond when pursuing various development projects.
Executive Member of the Football Association of Malawi (FAM), Bernard Chiwiriwiri Harawa, commended the parliamentarian’s initiative, saying it will help identify local football talent.
At the event, which commenced with a parade, Zulu donated footballs and kits to 43 football and 23 netball teams.
Cabinet ministers, members of Parliament, Malawi Congress Party officials and traditional leaders were in attendance.
