President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has called on Malawians to render their support to those in need with speed as the situation in camps is getting desperate each passing day.
The President was speaking at Sanjika Palace as he briefed the nation on his continued visits to cyclone devastated areas.
Dr Chakwera particularly mentioned Chisi Island which he said is totally devastated by Cyclone Freddy.
” The situation at Chisi is sad as people have lost everything,” Dr Chakwera said.
The President said despite the fact that food has been airlifted to the devastated areas there is so much need among the people affected.He urged people not to procrastinate but to give if they are still contemplating.
“If you are still thinking of helping please don’t delay, people need help,” Dr Chakwera said.
He said operation Tigwirane Manja was about ensuring that people render a hand.
He thanked people and organisations that have helped including Umunthu plus, Central emergency relief fund , WFP immediate response account, and the republic of Botswana and the United Arab Republic of Egypt.
