We need sanity in the tobacco sector – Dr Chakwera

President Lazarus Chakwera has demanded sanitisation of the Tobacco value chain, which he wants to be driven by best practices.

Chakwera made the call at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe when he interacted with players in the Tobacco sector comprising officials from Ministry of Agriculture and Tobacco Processors Association.

Dr Chakwera pointed out that such a move would see the hard-working farmers reaping a substantial benefit from their toil.

The President believes those within the production cycle such as farmers, market operators, grower associations and all interested parties are best placed to push the agenda.

The meeting comes a week ahead of the opening of the 2023/24 marketing season.
