Speaker of Parliament Catherine Gotani Hara has urged parliamentarians to advocate for an increase in health budget, specifically targeting women, adolescents and children.
Gotani Hara made the plea during a capacity building workshop for parliamentarians on health financing for women, adolescents and children.
The Speaker said resources that are currently allocated to the health needs of the target group are not enough to give them the best possible health services.
“Malawi is among countries where resources that are allocated to health requirements for women need to be increased as women face various challenges,” said Gotani Hara.
The Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU), together with the Malawi Parliament, organised the workshop to tackle issues related to women, adolescents and child health financing.
