US specialists support QECH Surgery Unit

Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre will reduce its backlog of 250 patients in need of maxillofacial surgery over the next two weeks, thanks to a 14-member team of specialised surgeons from the United States of America who arrived in the country on 25 May, 2024.

The team leader, Dr Tania Nkungula, said some of the cases they will see include defects related to dental dentistry, removing oral tumours, and other dental conditions.

Malawi’s Ambassador to the United States of America, Esme Chombo, said a similar exercise will be conducted before the end of the year.

Malawi has only one specialist for such cases.
