Tobacco farmers want season to open in March

Tobacco farmers have appealed to government to consider opening the Tobacco Marketing Season earlier to prevent them from selling the leaf to vendors at cheaper prices.

The farmers say they start harvesting the leaf in March, which would be ideal to open the season.

Nenani Sauti of Group Village Head Kawaza in Traditional Authority Mponela in Dowa District says the development makes farmers make losses.

President Dr Lazarus Chakwera opened the 2024 Tobacco Marketing Season last week at Chinkhoma Auction Floors in Kasungu.
