Lumbadzi Police in Lilongwe believe sports can be a transformative tool with which to deter at-risk individuals from engaging in anti-social behaviours, crime and violence in communities.
Publicist for the Police, Felix Kwinyani, expressed these sentiments at Chinkhuti Primary School ground during the Rafael Mataka Championship finals.
“Sports can give people a sense of belonging, loyalty, and support, reducing cases of suicide, drug use, alcohol, and substance abuse as options,” Kwinyani said.
In the contest’s final, Nkhalamba FC emerged victorious, defeating Gogo FC with a 2-1 scoreline.
Sponsor of the tournament, Rafael Mataka, praised both teams and their spectators for the discipline displayed throughout the tournament, which attracted 24 teams.
