Assistant Tourism Officer for Likoma, Joyce Storey, says snorkeling and diving courses will help boost tourism in Lakeshore districts.
During a week-long snorkeling and diving course which was held in Monkey Bay, Mangochi, Storey said the participants will now ably lure tourists to destinations known for their rich marine life.
“Tourism centred around snorkeling and diving often promotes marine conservation efforts and supports initiatives to protect underwater environments. This will help enhance tourism by attracting visitors and supporting local economies,” said Storey.
A participant and tour guide from Likoma, Yusuf Asima, said the course has been an eye-opener to the youth, pointing out that it will help in job creation and rescuing people on the lake.
He said by being trained as divers, the youth will be able to showcase their skills to tourists and show them the type of fish available on Lake Malawi in Likoma.
