Silver Strikers to face Mighty Wanderers

Silver Strikers will face Mighty Mukuru Wanderers in the Airtel Top 8 semi-final after defeating Premier Bet Dedza Dynamos 2-1 at Dedza Stadium on Sunday, securing a 6-2 aggregate score over the two legs.

Dedza Dynamos’ Ibrahim Sadik first took the lead in the 27th minute when they were awarded a penalty after a handball by Maxwell Paipi.

In the second-half, Silver Strikers were awarded a penalty in the 56th minute for a handball against Dynamos’ Gift Magola, which Chisisi Maonga converted to equalise at 1-1.

In the 81st minute, Silver Strikers took the lead with a goal from Charles Chipala, formerly of Dedza Dynamos, who capitalised on a mistake from Dynamos’ goalkeeper Donex Mwakasinga.

Despite Dedza losing the match, their midfielder, Victor Lungu was voted man of the match.

Silver Strikers Coach, Peter Mponda, said it was a well deserved victory because they dominated the game.

Premier Bet Dedza Dynamos Coach, Andrew Bunya, described the match as ‘difficult’ because his reliable players failed to find the back of the net when they had chances.

In the previous assignment, Silver Strikers defeated Dedza at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe 4-1 with goals from Chimwemwe Idana 11′, Zebron Kalima 40′, Chinsisi Maonga 63′, 79′ and Dedza’s Mpinganjira on the 53’rd minute.

Wanderers went through the Semis after defeating Bangwe All Stars 4-2 on post-match penalties after a 1-1 aggregate scoreline.

Airtel Top 8 Second Leg action of the Quarterfinals will return on 19 October when Kamuzu Barracks face Chitipa United at Civo Stadium while on 20 October Civil Service United will face FCB Nyasa Big Bullets at Civo.
