Farmers in the Shire Valley region have started earning from this season’s sesame production.
A spot check by MBC has found that in some parts of Chikwawa, the grain is fetching prices between K1800 and K2500 per kilogramme.
National crop estimates for this season indicated a high production of unconventional crops such as sesame, whose production was expected to be 56.1 percent from 2023, from 9,686 metric tons to 15,123 metric tons.
Meanwhile, most farmers in areas such as Chapananga are going towards the end of harvesting, while others have piled the sesame straws to dry in preparation for sale.
