Quech Nursing Officer urges support for patients

Some patients, some traveling from as far as Nsanje and Mangochi who are in need of medical attention at Queen Elizabeth Cenral Hospital are in need of assistance due to a lack of nearby relatives or abandoned by their families after prolonged hospital stays.

The development has prompted Patricia Smart, a Nursing officer at the Oncology Ward to appeal for support for patients at the referral facility.

“Some have stayed longer in the hospital and their relations stopped coming here so they need a lot of support,” said Smart.

In response to this need, the Tikondane Women group from Chilomoni has donated food and essential items to the oncology ward.

According to Jean Sonkhani, the group’s chairperson, they were compelled to act after witnessing the struggles of patients to access basic necessities.
