NGORA urges NGOs to develop strategic plans

Non-Governmental Organisations Regulatory Authority (NGORA) has urged non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to develop strategic plans that align well with the government policies and national development agendas.

NGORA Monitoring and Analysis Officer for Phalombe District, Chrispin Sakala, made the call during the opening of a workshop for the development of River of Life Organisation’s five-year strategic plan.

He also encouraged NGOs to work closely with local councils when formulating their plans.

“It is easier for NGOs to secure funding when their plans are aligned with the government’s policies and development priorities,” said Sakala.

River of Life Programmes Manager, Richard Chiutula Muluzi, acknowledged that in the past, the organisation faced challenges in securing support due to the absence of a strategic plan.

Muluzi expressed optimism that the new plan would help open doors to new opportunities.

“Let me commend NGORA, through the NGO Fund, for supporting us in developing this strategic plan, which is a step in the right direction,” he said.

He also urged donors to express interest in supporting local NGOs, noting that they possess the capacity and grassroots presence which is necessary to effect change in their communities.
