National Food Reserve Agency (NFRA) will start buying maize for the country’s strategic grain reserves on Monday, 13 May 2024.
George Macheka, NFRA’s Chief Executive Officer, says the government increased allocation for the procurement exercise to K 22 billion and K10 billion has already been released.
Macheka says NFRA intends to buy 82,000 metric tons of maize from farmers and will adhere to the minimum farm gate price of K650 per Kilogram.
NFRA has since appealed to farmers to grade their maize accordingly and only sell maize that has recommended moisture content.
