NEW LILONGWE BRIDGE SOON – ROADS AUTHORITY

Lilongwe Bridge will be demolished on November 1 this year to pave the way for the construction of a state-of-the-art bridge with support from the Japanese Government, Spokesperson for the Roads Authority Portia Kajanga has disclosed.

Speaking to MBC, Kajanga said meanwhile, construction of two bridges for temporal use during the time of constructing the modern bridge, will be complete by October.

“The new bridge will have five lanes. Pedestrians and cyclists will have their lanes on both sides of the bridge. This will be a bridge befitting the capital city, Lilongwe,” Kajanga said.

On the ongoing construction of the high-quality M1 Dual Carriageway from Crossroads to Kanengo with support from the Chinese Government, Kajanga said part of the road will shortly be partly opened to traffic.

Minister of Information, Moses Kunkuyu, said while equally developing other parts of the country, Government will ensure that Lilongwe City attains its befitting status.

A cross-section of residents in the city have since hailed Government for embarking on the projects, which they say will significantly improve the flow of traffic.
