NB women’s league playoffs commence

Playoffs of the National Bank Women’s premiership are expected to commence this afternoon up until Saturday, 19 July, 2025, according to the Football Association of Malawi (FAM).

Mzuzu City Hammers Queens from the Northern Region will clash against MDF Lioness from the Central Region.

On Friday, Chitoliro Heroines from the Southern Region shall face Mzuzu City Hammers Queen, while on Saturday, MDF Lioness and Chitoliro will lock horns. All games shall be played at Mzuzu Stadium.

The playoffs will determine the final team to join the other nine teams in the newly established National League, which will kick off next week as Malawi’s top-tier women’s football competition, sponsored by National Bank of Malawi.

Already qualified teams are FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women, Ntopwa FC, Mighty Wanderers Queens, Ascent Soccer Academy, Civil Service Women, Silver Strikers Ladies, Moyale Sisters, MK Academy and Topik Sisters from the North.

According to FAM, each participating team will receive K13 million in subvention, two full sets of uniforms and five footballs — with individual player and media awards included in the package.

Previously, FAM President, Fleetwood Haiya, said “this Women’s League will serve as the premier women’s football competition in the country; laying the foundation for increased professionalism, enhanced talent identification, and broader participation among women and girls across Malawi.”

The winner of the National Women’s league will represent Malawi in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Women’s Champions League.
