A meeting aimed at resolving the ongoing truck drivers’ strike is currently taking place at the Ministry of Transport headquarters at Capital Hill in Lilongwe.
In attendance are representatives of the truck drivers, Minister of Information and Digitalisation Moses Kunkuyu, Minister of Labour Agnes NyaLonje, Homeland Security Minister Ken Zikhale Ng’oma, and Transport Minister Jacob Hara.
One of the transporters, who wished to remain anonymous, stated that the truck drivers are still demanding a minimum salary of K300,000 per month. However, transporters believe this amount is excessive and not feasible given the high maintenance costs they incur in the business.
