Communities in Mangochi have hailed the Social Cash Transfer Programme (SCTP), describing it as a game-changer for their livelihood.

Speaking during the distribution exercise of August stipend on Monday, one beneficiary, Benard Chande, 76, of Traditional Authority (T/A) Chowe, said the programme has empowered him economically.

“Before enrolled into the programme, I was struggling to make ends meet, but now, through the monthly stipend, I managed to buy goats for farming, now 10 of them that afford us a life,” said Chande.

Jemier Daudi of T/A Chilipa commended government for the programme, saying that it has brought hope to her family.

Principal Social Welfare Officer for Mangochi, Patrick Cholopi, said following a recent retargeting exercise of beneficiaries, the district now has an increased number of beneficiary households.
