Police in Limbe have arrested Dickson Khoviwa, 32, for allegedly trying to steal underground Escom cables at Maselema along the Masauko Chipembere Highway in Blantyre.
According to Limbe Police Public Relations Officer Aubrey Singanyama, Khoviwa and an accomplice, known only as Mafo from Bangwe No.1, were digging up cables connected to a nearby electricity pole in the early hours of today.
During the attempt, Khoviwa sustained injuries, including a cut on his left arm, from electrocution. Mafo fled the scene, leaving Khoviwa behind.
The cables were linked to a pole carrying an 11kv overhead line.
Khoviwa was arrested on the scene and is currently receiving medical treatment at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital.
