Ntchisi District Council Chairperson, Marko Mphezi Mtengo, has assured residents that the ongoing construction of the Malomo-Ntchisi- Dowa Road will ease mobility challenges, particularly during the rainy season.
Mtengo told the Malawi News Agency that the current road condition contributes to frequent accidents and delays the timely transportation of referral patients from Malomo to Ntchisi District Hospital.
He added that the improved road will reduce deaths occurring when referral patients are transported to the district hospital from Malomo Health Centre, as ambulances often struggle to navigate the road during the rainy season.
Local resident Precious Dickson, a motorcycle taxi (kabaza) operator, expressed optimism about the project’s completion.
“We’ll be able to reach as far as Dowa for business,” said Dickson.
The project, previously stalled due to alleged contractor negligence, is set to resume soon.
Ntchisi South Legislator, Ulemu Chilapondwa, confirmed that construction would proceed following President Dr Lazarus Chakwera’s recent visit to the district.
