Malawi Assemblies of God University (MAGU) and the Private School Association of Malawi (PRISAM) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will allow teachers from PRISAM-affiliated institutions to further their studies at MAGU.
The partnership, formalized in a ceremony attended by representatives from both institutions, aims to foster cooperation in various educational programs, including the Degree of Education, Diploma of Education, University Certificate in Education (UCE) training, and Early Childhood Development (ECD) certificate training.
“This MOU has come at the right time when the government is encouraging teachers to get trained so that our education standards are improved in the country,” said PRISAM President Ernest Kaonga.
The agreement outlines objectives such as providing hands-on experience, enhancing communication skills, and strengthening linkages between MAGU and various stakeholders. Under the MOU, MAGU will oversee the training of PRISAM student-teachers and ensure compliance with student conduct codes.
PRISAM, on the other hand, will provide identification letters, participate in student evaluations, and notify MAGU of any issues regarding student performance or conduct.
Kaonga emphasized, “We don’t want our schools to be closed; hence, we encourage all our members to ensure their teachers are registered with the Teachers Council of Malawi.
“As PRISAM, our goal is to support the government in providing quality education in the country. This initiative seeks to underscore the same.”
Financial arrangements include specific tuition fees for different programs, with the MAGU-PRISAM Bursary subject to annual review.
Both parties have committed to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to applicable Malawi laws, ensuring a collaborative and legally compliant partnership.
