Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has affirmed that all ICT equipment entering the local market will be required to conform to type-approved local and international standards, effective this December.
Deputy Director of Technologies and Standards at MACRA, Nicholas Kanyenda, announced this in Mzuzu during a media engagement on the Type-Approval Regime.
MACRA’s Quality Assurance Manager, Cossam Chingancheke, said this will ensure the health and safety of users, spectrum usage and management and electronic magnetic compliance of ICT products that include laptops, handsets and telecommunication equipment.
To effectively implement the regulation, MACRA will collaborate with the Malawi Revenue Authority and other key stakeholders to standardise and sanitise the local ICT market.
