Kayira tells Mabedi to adopt attacking football

Ex-Flames Striker, Peterkins Kayira, has urged the Coach for the Malawi National Football team, Patrick Mabedi, to adopt a full-throttle attacking game against Burundi on Thursday at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

This will be the opener of Group L of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier to be hosted by Morocco between 21 December 2025 and 18 January 2026.

Kayira said the best approch would be to attack and pile pressure, stressing that this has to come from all the players regardless of their positions.

In June this year, Burundi came from behind to hold Kenya in a 1-all stalemate against the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier at the Bingu National Stadium.

Mabedi said he analyses the opponents and considers Malawi underdogs because their Thursday opponents are a “very good team” with some weaknesses.

However, he added that he would like a good start by collecting the maximum points.

Captain for the Flames, John ‘CJ’ Banda, said the players are eager to perform.

“The result won’t come on a silver platter. We are calling for your support,” he said.

In Group L, there is also Senegal and Burkina Faso, sides that Malawi will face meet on 10 September and 7 October 2024.
