The Minister of Trade has told Parliament that the government has instructed Illovo Malawi and Salima Sugar companies to start sugar production as soon as possible after stocks from last year failed to satisfy demand for the next production, which is in April.
The minister responsible, Sosten Gwengwe, made the remarks in Parliament when he responded to a question of national importance from Member of Parliament for Rumphi East, Kamlepo Kalua, who wanted to know what the government is doing on sugar scarcity and price increase.
Gwengwe has since assured the House and the country at large that Capital Hill is doing everything possible to normalise the situation as soon as possible.
