‘Government grants will boost ATM Strategy’

Ministry of Youth and Sports has described the government’s financial grants to youth cooperatives through the National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCOM) as an important step in promoting the ATM strategy particularly the agricultural sector, which is key in boosting trade and ensuring food security.

The Minister responsible Uchizi Mkandawire, made the remarks when presenting a K5 million cheque to Mwanganda 1 Youth Club in Karonga.

Mkandawire emphasized that increasing maize and rice production, as Mwanganda 1 Youth Club is doing, will contribute to food security and stimulate trade with other countries, ultimately aiding in the generation of foreign exchange.

NYCOM Executive Director, Rex Chapota, highlighted that the government is distributing the grants to the cooperatives upon realizing their potential to contribute to the country’s socio-economic development.

Chairperson for Mwanganda 1 Youth Club Salome Selanga, expressed gratitude to the government for the initiative and highlighted that the grant will significantly benefit their cooperative.
