Five countries assist Malawi with 19,000 tonnes of grain

Malawi’s development partners have committed to providing the country with 19,000 tonnes of grain through the World Food Programme.

The countries: Sweden, France, the Netherlands, Ukraine and South Korea made this resolution during a joint press briefing in Blantyre in response to Malawi’s food insecurity.

Ukraine’s Ambassador to Kenya, Andril Pravednyk, said that 14,000 of the 19,000 metric tons of grain sourced from Ukraine have already arrived in Blantyre.

According to the 2024/25 Malawi Vulnerability Assessment Committee (MVAC) report, 5.7 million people in Malawi face food insecurity, exacerbated by El Niño-induced droughts.
