Five arrested for murder in Mzimba

Police at Jenda in Mzimba have arrested five individuals suspected of killing Yona Nkhata, who was accused of stealing cattle in the district.

According to MacFarlen Mseteka, Public Relations Officer for Jenda Police,  six cattle were stolen from Fremont Ng’ona’s kraal last month.

“Instead of reporting the crime to Police, Ng’ona consulted Simbiyamoto, a witch doctor in Zambia who alleged that it was the deceased who was stealing their cattle as this was not the first time,” said Mseteka.

Following this relevation, Ng’ona and his brother rallied other villagers, who abducted and assaulted Nkhata in anticipation that he would reveal where their cattle was being kept, said Mseteka.

Police from Embangweni Unit intervened after receiving reports and managed to rescue Nkhata who was rushed to Embangweni Mission Hospital but later died from his injuries.

The five suspects, have being charged with murder, inciting violence and other offenses.
