Col. Sambalopa to be laid to rest on Friday

A vigil is being held in Zomba where late Colonel Owen Sambalopa of the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) is expected to be laid to rest on Friday.

Sources have told MBC Digital that the late Colonel Sambalopa will be buried at Malosa in the old capital city.

He was one of the eight people tragically killed on Monday in a plane crash at Chikangawa in Mzimba District, along with the country’s Vice President late Dr Saulos Chilima.

Late Colonel Sambalopa was Malawi Air Force Headquarters Inspector General and in February this year led an MDF delegation on a tour of duty to Kenya where they visited Kenya Navy and the Kenya Shipyards Limited Mombasa.

A send-off ceremony for the seven bodies, including late Colonel Sambalopa, is meanwhile, being conducted at Sunset Funeral Services, Kanengo in Lilongwe.
