Chitsulo urges Adventists to pray for peace ahead of September elections

By Blessings Cheleuka

Deputy Minister of Local Government, Unity and Culture, Joyce Chitsulo, has called on Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church members to pray for peace as Malawi prepares for elections on September 16, 2025.

Chitsulo made the call while representing President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera at the Central Malawi Conference’s special Easter Camp Meeting held in Dowa.

She commended the SDA Church for its continued partnership with the government in advancing socio-economic development.

She assured the congregation of President Chakwera’s unwavering commitment to supporting the church’s vision and initiatives.

“The President is asking the SDA Church to continue praying unceasingly for peaceful elections, because freedom of worship thrives best in a nation where peace prevails,” said Chitsulo.

She also emphasized the church’s crucial role during elections, encouraging religious leaders to promote peace, unity, and civic responsibility among their members.

The special camp meeting was held under the theme, “Ready or Not: Behold, He Comes,” drawn from Revelation 22:20. The guest preacher was Pastor Jonas Singo from the Republic of Tanzania.

President Chakwera also donated K5 million towards the event.
