As Malawi is commemorating the World Menstrual Hygiene Day today, commentators under the Water and Environmental Sanitation Network have called for increased access to sanitary pads.
Commemorations marking the day are taking place at Pinda Primary School in Mchinji where the Minister of Water and Sanitation, Abida Mia, is the guest of honour.
Among others, the network is pushing for the provision of free menstrual pads to girls in the same way that some condoms are provided to men.
They say sex is a choice but menstruation is not and if they cannot be given for free then they should have their tax removed.
