CHAKWERA FOR COMMERCIAL FARMING

President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has emphasized the need for Malawi to move from subsistence to commercial farming through value addition to local farm produce.
Dr Chakwera was speaking at  Namadidi ground in Zomba during a development rally.
The President said: “Malawi has the potential to move from an importing country to an exporting one. Let me also highlight the need to conserve the environment to mitigate the effects of climate change.”
Speaking earlier, when he conducted a crop inspection tour in the villages of Aaron, Mjojo and Kaunde 1 in Zomba, Dr Chakwera called on a multi-sectoral approach to ensuring that farmers in the country have access to the Affordable Inputs Programme (AIP).
The Malawi leader said he is impressed with the progress registered in the fields of those that have had access to the AIP.
Dr Chakwera has since encouraged farmers to adopt modern farming methods to enhance profitability and ensure food security at the household and national level.
