Central Bankers are running away with it!

TNM Super League log leaders, Silver Strikers, remain invincible in the top-flight as they maintained an 8-point gap following a 2 nil victory against Mighty Wakawaka Tigers at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe, with goals from the Nigerian forward, Friday Osagie.

This means the Central Bankers have 43 Points from 17 games, while Tigers are dangerously close to the chop standing 12th with 19 points from 18 matches.

Mighty Mukuru Wanderers are second with 35 points from 18 games.

Peter Mponda, Silver’s coach, expressed satisfaction with their victory since they faced difficulties in unlocking their opponents’ defence in the first-half.

In the game, the Central Bankers employed a 4-3-3 formation, with midfielders Chimwemwe Idana, Binwell Katinji, and Chikondi Kamanga alternating between attacking and left and right central midfield roles.

“You can see the way the first goal came, it came from Binwell. He took a shot and the goalkeeper saved [Punched] it and Friday finished the rebound. I think this is what has been happening at training,” Mponda said.

Osagie’s thunderbolt goal in the 84th minute was the last nail in the coffin, sealing the victory and sending the home crowd into a frenzy and also earning a man of the match accolade.

Tigers’ Coach, Leo Mpulula accepted defeat but blamed his charges for losing concentration and pledged to rectify the errors on the drawing board.

Elsewehere, at Mzuzu Stadium, Moyale Barracks collected three points to leap-frog to 5th place with 26 points from 18 assignments, after a 1-0 victory against Karonga United, courtesy of Emmanuel Allan on the 51st minute.

Despite the result, game that was closely contested. In the first half was a defensive battle, with both teams struggling to create scoring opportunities.

In the second half, there was more action, with Moyale Barracks scoring the only goal of the game in the 51st minute. Allan tapped in a cross from Lovemore Jere to give his team the lead. Maneno Nyoni, a defender for Moyale Barracks FC, was named the player of the match for his solid defensive performance.

Moyale’s Coach, Pritchard Mwansa, said the victory was required for them since they have been dropping points in their last two games.

While Karonga United’s Coach Oscar Kaunda said the game was fair and said they conceded after a blunder from their goalie.

This means Karonga is 11th with 20 points from 18 games.

At Karonga Stadium, Chitipa United were in a goalless draw against MAFCO.

The game was evenly balanced, with both teams creating scoring opportunities but failing to capitalise on them. However, MAFCO FC was given several free kicks and corner kicks but couldn’t convert them into goals.

MAFCO’s stopper, Christopher Mikuwa, was awarded as the Man of The Match after 90 minutes.

Chitipa United remain 13th with 16 points, a point above the drop where there’s FOMO, Bangwe All Stars on 15th with 12 points, and Baka City, the anchors, with 8 Points.

Coach for Chitipa United FC, Christopher Nyambose, then encouraged their supporters that they will remain in the league despite their current unsatisfactory perfomances in the top flight.

Assistant Coach for MAFCO FC, Jimmy Mzunga, then pledged a victory in their upcoming match. The result has left them 7th with 26 points.

On Sunday, league action will return with Kamuzu Barracks facing Baka City and Premier Bet Dedza Dynamos locking horns against FOMO.
