Minister of Information and Communications Technology and Member of Parliament for Mangochi South West, Shadric Namalomba, has urged Malawians to actively participate in development initiatives in their communities.
Namalomba made the call on Thursday during the New Year celebrations held at Chilipa and Group Village Headman Njoka areas. The event was organised to thank residents of Chilipa Ward for voting for Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidates, including President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, Namalomba as Member of Parliament, and Akumbolera Wanja as Ward Councillor.
He assured residents that several development projects are in the pipeline, including electrification of the area, construction of a secondary school and a technical college. Namalomba also said work on a health facility that had stalled earlier will resume soon.
The minister further assured the people that the DPP-led administration will ensure food availability by providing relief food where necessary and by ensuring that all Farm Input Subsidy Programme (FISP) beneficiaries have access to fertiliser and other inputs in good time.
He warned local leaders against engaging in malpractices during the implementation of the programme.
Group Village Headman Njoka, from Senior Chief Chilipa, commended the lawmaker for taking time to celebrate the election victory and the New Year with his constituents and assured him of the chiefs’ support in ensuring the smooth implementation of development projects in the constituency.
In his remarks, DPP governor for Mangochi, Salire Mdala, also commended the legislator for the gesture and urged residents to rally behind the current government, saying the time for politicking was over.
