Pact Malawi says there is need for collective efforts to curb the spread of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and child rights violations in Malawian fishing communities.
Daniel Jamu, Pact Malawi’s chief of party, said this in Dowa District at the code of conduct validation for the fishers workshop.
Reports indicate that such violence is on the rise in fishing communities, which Jamu says requires a multi-sectoral approach.
“The code of conduct validation process will help to come up with a Final version that will be used to promote ethical standards for fishers and stakeholders,” he said.
Traditional Authority Zilakoma from Nkhatabay District admitted that GBV continues to affect women and children in Lake Shore districts.
Through Restoring fisheries for sustainable livelihoods in Lake Malawi, the organization is implementing the interventions in lakeshore districts nationwide.
