Charcoal producers clash with forest rangers

Charcoal producers at Michiru Mountain in Blantyre on Saturday clashed with forest rangers and a team of three police officers who were inspecting the damage caused to the reserve.

The confrontation escalated when the charcoal producers began hurling stones at the investigators, prompting the officers to disperse them by firing in the air.

Reports indicate that approximately 70% of Michiru Mountain has been damaged by charcoal producers.
