40 years in jail for defiling daughter

The High Court in Blantyre has sentenced a man (name withheld) to 40 years of hard labour for defiling his five-year-old biological daughter as a deterrent to potential offenders.

Earlier, a lower court gave the man a 21-year jail term, but Judge Justice Chimwemwe Kamowa revised the sentence since there was a betrayal of trust and psychological trauma inflicted upon the victim.

“A father is expected to be a guardian, a protector, and a source of safety for his child,” Kamowa said.

The High Court Judge has since cautioned that such felonies will not be accepted.
