Minister of Finance, Simplex Chithyola Banda, has challenged youths to be agents of development to contribute meaningfully to the growth of the country’s economy.
Chithyola Banda pointed out that over half of the population consists of youths, hence urging them to be productive.
He made these remarks in Lilongwe at the ministerial pre-budget consultation with the youth for the 2025-26 national budget.
The minister stressed that the government is committed to creating a youth-centric budget this year.
“You can be on social media browsing and chatting but you cannot download food on WhatsApp. We need to be productive and ensure resources that will be allocated in the national budget for youth are used productively, ” Chithyola Banda said.
This is the first time for Malawi to have a pre-budget consultation for the youth.
