President Dr Lazarus Chakwera says his administration has resuscitated irrigation farming and created more mega farms to address El Niño induced hunger in Malawi.
Dr Chakwera says over 5.5 million people will need food aid this year due to dry spells experienced last year.
He asked for collaboration with FAO in addressing climate change effects such as Cyclone Freddy and dry spells, which continue to affect Malawis’ efforts to eradicate hunger quickly.
Dr Chakwera says his government is committed to improve people’s wellbeing through Agriculture, Tourism and Mining and believes the FAO can assist Malawi in dealing with these challenges, support Malawi’s efforts in achieving food security and creating wealth for all.
