Villages in T/A Tsabango in need of safe water

Chalula, Katotoweka and 12 other villages in Traditional Authority Tsabango in Lilongwe are facing a persisting challenge of a lack of clean and safe water in their villages. Senior Group Village Head Chalula says the problem requires immediate attention.

The chief made the remarks during a manual rope pump well unveiling ceremony in the area, which will offer temporary safe water and help minimize water born disease cases.

Chalula has since urged the public and health organisations to lender support in acquiring clean water facilities such as solar water pumps kiosks and bole holes to promote access to clean water for the people in the communities.

Senior Health Surveillance Assistant (SHSA) for Kang’oma Health Centre, Elliot Kazembe, says the hospital receives a huge number of water born disease cases and shortage of clean water is a contributing factor.

Kazembe added that Kang’ona Health Centre provides training on water treatment and also provides water treatment chemicals such as chlorine to the villages.

Chalula, Katotoweka and other villages were using one bolehole before it was vandalized by thieves and since then, villagers have been accessing water from one unsafe well and various swamps.
