President Dr Lazarus Chakwera says the country is on the right track in fighting corruption and will soon achieve a corrupt-free society.
Dr Chakwera was speaking in Lilongwe when he presided over the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) Symposium which is part of its silver jubilee celebrations.
In his message, tapped from the biblical example of Prophet Elijah, Dr Chakwera said Malawians should turn their frustrations into hope adding the Malawi dream of having a corrupt free society is close.
ACB Director General, Martha Chizuma, said Malawi is doing well in the fight against corruption and if it keeps on the trajectory it can make progress and achieve Malawi 2063.
Chizuma said the current administration has demonstrated political will to fight corruption and for the past 25 years, only three years under Dr Chakwera have shown commitment towards the fight against corruption.
Meanwhile, the EU Ambassador to Malawi, Runne Skinnebach, has expressed the EU’s commitment to support Malawi in combating corruption and supporting initiatives that strengthen institutions and citizens to fight corruption.
At the symposium, the Ministry of Finance and ACB also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work together and facilitate the sharing of information, and investigations among others in the fight against corruption.
The event was held under the theme: “Rethinking anti-corruption approaches for Malawi 2063.”
